Campus Talk: Season 1 - Episode 2

Synopsis

David and Colin open the second episode of Campus Talk with campus announcements and a look at the university newspaper’s April Fool’s edition.

The first guest is Phil Paul, East Stroudsburg University’s director of campus ministry and adviser to United Campus Ministry. A recently retired Marine, Phil discusses his transition into ministry and explains how his life experiences prepared him to support students. He describes United Campus Ministry as an interdenominational organization welcoming students of every faith and outlines its extensive schedule of spiritual, recreational, and community-service activities. Phil also shares the story of a Native American drum he received and asks for guidance in understanding its spiritual significance and proper use.

The second guest is Chad George, station manager of the university’s student-run radio station, 90.3 WESS-FM. Chad recounts how he became involved with college radio, the responsibilities and professional experience he gained as station manager, and some of his favorite memories with fellow DJs. He also discusses the station’s recent difficulties, including transmitter problems, stolen equipment, low morale, and strained communication with the university administration. Despite those challenges, Chad remains optimistic about WESS-FM’s future, including a more consistent music format and the launch of a new live discussion program, The Gentleman in the Next Room.
